Meeting Notes – 9 Feb 2010

A most interesting talk given by Rod Style JP on the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) program Rod is a Rotarian past president of South Perth Burswood club and a past Assistant District Governor. He is currently the chairman of RYDA. Major points made by Rod were:
• RYDA is linked to schools and targets 17 to 25 year old males. About 170,000 are participating thru out Australia.
• Statics show that this is the group who are involved in the most accidents.
• Training focuses on changing their attitude to speed; road safety and fatigue.
• Visits to survivors of road crashes are include to highlight the traumas caused by accidents to both the driver and extended family.
• Training manuals are provided to ensure that training has a national standard.
• RC of Fremantle is already involved thru CBC but can be involved thru additional schools.
Would appear to be an excellent program that should be supported.
