Rotary – Give a Damn Give a Can Day provides and estimated $30,000 in cans and dry goods in aid of those in need.
Blue skies, and pink bags came together for the fourth annual Give a Dam Give a Can collection and once again the folk in Fremantle and district have shown their willingness to assist those not so fortunate in the community.
This year four Rotary Clubs, Fremantle , Fremantle Port, Attadale and Cockburn joined together to collect donations of cans and dry goods which were passed on to five community organisations including the Salvos, Women’s Refuge, Church Freo’s Homeless Project, St Pats and Anglicare. These gifts will be used to provide hot meals, and assistance parcels to individuals and families who need a helping hand.
Our carpet of pink in the park attracted attention from passersby and several people who missed the door to door collection, including Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettit delivered their bags in person and joined in the “thank you” sausage sizzle for volunteers and friends.
Local pharmacies also acted as delivery points and three local schools were also involved asking their students to take part in the collection and providing excellent contributions.
Rotary members hand delivered the bags and then collected them with assistance from friends and family. A good walk on a beautiful day followed by a sausage sizzle yielding over an estimated $30,000 of aid to the community. Rotary – helping hands in the Community.
